2025 AES Rate Hike -
Opposition Proposal

Michael-Paul Hart is committed to safeguarding families and businesses from unnecessary financial burdens. With utility bills already climbing steeply, he is taking action to ensure fairness, accountability, and responsible regulation in our city’s energy future.

Proposal 287 – Opposing the AES Indiana Rate Hike

Hart urges AES Indiana to withdraw its proposed electric rate increase and calls on the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) to reject the petition if AES does not withdraw it.

Key Concerns:
  • Residential bills have risen 42% in just five years, from $111 in 2020 to $158 in 2025.
  • The new AES request would add another 13.5% increase by 2027, about $21 more per month for the average household.
  • Customers are already facing a 6% increase in 2026 from previously approved projects.

This measure aims to:
  • Protect families and businesses from undue financial strain.
  • Hold utilities accountable for fair and transparent pricing.
  • Ensure Indianapolis builds the Smartest City in America, where growth is balanced with responsibility to residents.
