Constituent Follow-Through and Better Service Requests

I spent significant time this week working directly with residents on concerns involving speeding, truck traffic, road conditions, potholes, brush clearance, and other neighborhood issues.

Current follow-ups include speeding concerns on Minnesota Avenue, heavy truck traffic and roadway deterioration on Wicker Road, and pothole and brush concerns on Muessing Road, no truck parking sign installation on Brookville Rd.. There has been progress on several of these issues, including requested inspections, sign improvements, and scheduled operations work.

For most city service concerns, please begin with RequestIndy: https://request.indy.gov/citizen/s/

Creating a request gives the issue a MAC number, which helps me and my office follow up with the appropriate department. City protocol often requires time for a work order to move through the system before escalation is possible. That said, I know some requests can sit too long without a clear update. We continue following up when that happens.

I am also continuing to push for better constituent-management tools for the Council. Today, many Council offices rely on individual spreadsheets to track calls, emails, texts, and service requests. A better shared system would help us identify patterns, follow cases more consistently, and give residents clearer updates.

DC Blox: Hearing Update and Public Documents

The July 1 DC Blox hearing is expected to be continued at the petitioner’s request to July 15 while additional commitments are being developed.

This week, I completed a request for the planning materials submitted to the City through June 26, including submissions from both the petitioner and remonstrators. I am organizing those materials in a public Google Drive so residents can review the same information without needing to submit separate records requests.

I also understand that communication between DC Blox and the Irvington school board has increased. Residents deserve clear information, real opportunities to be heard, and a transparent process for evaluating a project of this scale.

Accountability starts with access to the facts.

Smarter Local Government Starts With Organized Communities

SmartIndy held a productive working session this week focused on strengthening community outreach, communication, and local engagement.

Building the Smartest City in America is not just about technology. It is about better information, stronger communication, and communities that are organized enough to engage before important decisions are made.

I am helping lead the countywide conversation around smarter local government and more informed neighborhood participation. If your HOA, neighborhood association, or community group would like SmartIndy to present, please reach out.

You can also join us at the INRC Neighborhood Power event on July 25 to learn more about SmartIndy and other community-first organizations working to strengthen local leadership.

July 6: Wheel Tax Proposal Before the Council

At the next full Council meeting on July 6, the Council is scheduled to consider a proposal to raise the wheel tax.

I continue to oppose this increase. Indianapolis needs safe roads and dependable infrastructure, but residents deserve a fair and sustainable approach to funding them.

Whether you support or oppose the proposal, I encourage you to make your voice heard. Send your thoughts to:
